Robin's Nest

Robin's Nest is available for our mixed-age Kindergarten children (and Silver Maples children beginning Jan 2019) from 1:00pm to 3:15pm, M-F.

Robin's Nest addresses the needs of working parents who want their children to participate in afternoon care that is consistent with the principles of Waldorf education. The afternoon includes ample rest, free play and drawing, and a snack.

Each afternoon after lunch with their morning classes, our Robin's Nest children will have a quiet rest time.  After their rest, they will share in an activity and/or a period of free play followed by a healthy snack (provided by the school) before they are picked up at 3:15pm. The intent is not to structure this time with a whirlwind of activities, but rather to provide a secure daily rhythm within which the child is free to explore options.

Please note that Robin’s Nest Program will not be in session when New Amsterdam School is not in session. Please check our website for snow cancellations and the school calendar.

Robin's Nest Plus+

Robin's Nest Plus is available for our Maples, mixed-age Kindergarten, and Elementary Grades children from 3:15pm to 6:00pm, M-F.

Robin's Nest Plus children go outside at 3:15pm for walks in the neighborhood and trips to the garden or playground. After plenty of outside time, children have time for free play, stories, crafts, and another snack. Children are picked up by 6:00pm.

To help the children come into the rhythm of our afternoon programs, we ask that parents enroll their child a minimum of two days per week.  We also encourage parents to carry the rhythm of the afternoon into their home lives by offering their children a time of rest after lunch.

Please note that Robin’s Nest Plus Program will not be in session when New Amsterdam School is not in session. Please check our website for snow cancellations and the school calendar.

Movement & Mindfulness

wednesdays 3:30 pm-5:00 pm ($325, 13 clases)

Yoga is non-competitive workout that is adaptable to every shape, size and age group.

Our method of play yoga increases physical strength and improves flexibility, coordination, and balance in an exciting and educational way. Our Movement & Mindfulness class fosters a heightened sense of self, greater body awareness, boosted self confidence, increased flexibility and coordination, and improved physical strength. Through thoughtful breathing techniques and visualizations children develop tools to bring peace and self-soothe, and through movement they develop increased self-confidence, focus, attention span, and gratitude.

We strive to create an engaging and healthy environment where children learn to stretch and connect with their bodies and imagination.

Games & Latin American Culture

Fridays 3:30 pm-5:00 pm ($325, 13 clases)

By Friday, students appreciate a relaxed afternoon of old-fashioned outdoor and indoor games. Our Spanish teacher will bring a Latin American flair, adding songs and games from Latin American culture as well. Children will learn four square, kick-the-can, and the like, as well as inside games on seriously inclement weather days. One goal of the class is to encourage children to moderate their own game playing, building negotiation and leadership skills in the process. No prior knowledge of games or Spanish is required!
