Summer is almost here and parents have been asking, "What should my child be doing over the summer?" If play is at the center of our early childhood curriculum, it certainly is at the center of a healthy childhood summer for everyone. Think back to your summers as a child. Maybe you have memories of damp grass on the backs of your legs, fireflies just eluding your grasp, or the absolutely unique yet ubiquitous sound of the ice cream truck on your block. Time to live in the world of her senses, to digest the sunlight, the beat of music in the street, and the salty residue of the trip to the beach: this can be your summer gift to your child. A fair dose of jumping rope for those Junipers and elementary students, time set aside for reading (or being read to) every day, lots of walking, swimming lessons, and a chance to climb would all support your child's development as well. But time for wonder and for a deep sense of gratitude for life and love, that is what summer is all about.

The New Amsterdam family is grateful for all who have given so generously to our Spring Awakening. Your heart- felt gifts to nurture the health and well being of our community are deeply appreciated. Thank you for a lovely night!
